The Citadel Theatre is excited to announce two renovation projects that are underway to make our space more accessible for our patrons and visitors. In an effort to remove barriers to participation for disabled artists and audience members, we are working diligently to update the theatre, one space at a time.
The first project is to add a brand new universal accessible washroom on the main floor of our building, next to the Box Office, thanks to the incredible support of Canadian Heritage’s Canada Cultural Spaces Fund, Edmonton Community Foundation, Grant Moore Architect Ltd. and Chandos Construction.

The other update will be to our Shoctor Theatre which is undergoing a renovation to accommodate additional accessible seating for patrons with mobility needs. This update will be a full accessibility aisle that will now allow for eight wheelchair access seats with companion seating. Previously, the Shoctor Theatre was only able to accommodate two wheelchair access seats. The row will also feature a wider area in front of seats for easier entry and exit.

These renovations are part of The Citadel Theatre’s continuing commitment to make the spaces in our theatre and community more inclusive for all, and we look forward to more opportunities to improve upon that. These renovations are already underway and will be complete in time for the start of our 2022/23 season in September.
The Citadel Theatre would like to share our gratitude to our community consultants that have supported this transformational work in the last two years: Voice of Albertans with Disabilities, Kelsie Acton, Iris Dykes, Kristi Hansen, Carly Neis, Alison Neuman, Dylan Thomas-Bouchier, Roxanne Ulanicki and Marc Workman.
If you have more questions about these updates or are interested in a season subscription with these needs in mind, please reach out to the Box Office at boxoffice@citadeltheatre.com or call 780-425-1820.
