* For this production the Citadel will be using the pro-rated rehearsal schedule, as allowed by the CTA. Rehearsals will take place Tuesday-Saturday, with Sunday and Monday as days off. Once the production begins technical rehearsals/performances, a 6-day work week will begin, with Mondays as the day off.

THE DIRECTOR REQUESTS PHOTOS AND RESUMÉS by March 24, 2023

We are currently only considering submissions from Edmonton-based actors and Vancouver-based actors.

To submit your interest for an in-person audition, please submit ONE PDF FILE with both a Headshot and a Resume and email the PDF to auditions@citadeltheatre.com.  Write “3 Musketeers [City]” in the subject line and indicate the role you are interested in in the body of the email. We accept online submissions only.

If you are an Edmonton or Vancouver-based actor who is out of town during auditions, please submit and the director will consider the possibility of a video audition. Please write “3 Musketeers Video Submission [City}” in the subject line.

Those selected for an audition will be contacted with further details. Those auditioning will be given a script selection from the show to prepare. The audition will also include a short fight call to assess comfort/ability with sword-work.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS

The pronouns and ages listed are descriptions of the characters. Actors are welcome to express interest for any roles, regardless of gender or age. For ALL roles, strong stage combat skills are a must. Acrobatics, gymnastics, or tumbling skills are a plus. The roles of Rochefort, Cardinal Richelieu, Milady de Winter, King Louis, and Mme de Treville have already been cast.

D’Artagnan (he/him): Late teens – early 20s, any ethnicity.

Brave, excellent sword and fighting skills; rough around the edges but intelligent; a romantic with a hair-trigger temper; a naive sense of justice; determined to become a Musketeer.

Athos (he/him): Mid-late 30s, any ethnicity.

The oldest of the Musketeers; a former Count; honorable; exceedingly brave; a man of few words, but quick to joke in the face of danger; smiles sometimes but seldom laughs; an excellent fighter and swordsman.

Porthos (he/him): Late 20s– early 30s, any ethnicity.

Vain, larger than life, concerned more with the body than the mind; the life of the party; brash; a big talker; but also a brave and true friend; excellent fighter.

Aramis (he/him): Late 20s– early 30s, any ethnicity.

Appears innocent and thoughtful, intellectual and poetic; is devoutly religious; is a Musketeer as punishment for killing his lover’s suitor in a duel; is a loyal friend. Is a dangerous fighter and highly skilled with a sword.

Constance Bonacieux/Ensemble (she/her): Late teens – early 20s, any ethnicity.

The Queen’s trusted maid; brave, intelligent, compassionate, fierce and romantic; carries letters between the Queen and Lord Buckingham at great personal risk.

Jussac/Ensemble (he/him): 30s-40s, any ethnicity.

Leader of Richelieu’s guards; striving to prove his guards superior to the free-wheeling Musketeers; religious; a skilled swordsman.

Lord Buckingham/Ensemble (he/him): mid 20s – mid 30s, any ethnicity.

A dashing; a romantic hero; Prime Minister of England; in love with Queen Anne of France.

Queen Anne/Kitty/Ensemble (she/her): 20s, any ethnicity.

Queen Anne is the Queen of France; unhappily married to Louis XIII; having an affair of the heart with Lord Buckingham of England; figurehead of the resistance movement against the Cardinal. Kitty is Milady de Winter’s maid; clever; brave; ethically flexible.

Monsieur Bonacieux/Ensemble (he/him): 40s-50s, any ethnicity.

Monsieur Bonacieux is Constance’s loving father and D’Artagnan’s landlord; a friend of the Musketeers; staunchly anti-Richelieu; a dry wit; aids Constance in her missions for the Queen.

Understudies: We are also casting three performing understudies. These performers will appear in the production nightly in ensemble roles and will understudy approximately 3 tracks each. The understudy positions are open to adults of all ages, genders and ethnicities. All understudies must have strong stage combat skills.

The Shoctor Theatre stage and backstage are accessible to artists that have mobility access needs; the backstage area includes elevator access, accessible washrooms, and an accessible dressing room. COVID-19 PROTOCOLS: The Citadel has been producing live theatre throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, and our organization’s protocols have reflected the requirements and suggestions of public health officials. We recognize that each production we create will come with its own unique circumstances, depending on the venue, rehearsal hall, cast, show requirements, as well as government guidance and resources.  Citadel Theatre’s COVID-19 Protocols (such as masking, screening, testing) will be prepared in advance for each production, distributed prior to rehearsals starting, and discussed on the first day of a production.
