CAPTIONED PERFORMANCES
A captioned performance uses real-time captions to represent spoken dialogue and other important audio elements during the show through a personal captioning device or on a screen visible to all patrons.
There will be an ASL Interpreter in the lobby for anyone requiring ASL to English Interpretation for lobby interactions (ie. The bar, box office, communicating with ushers, etc.).
RELAXED PERFORMANCES
An accessible performance option to audience members who may benefit from a more relaxed environment in the theatre or those who may have not normally felt comfortable attending a live performance.
ASL INTERPRETED PERFORMANCES
Performances where ASL interpreters translate the dialogue and songs onstage for patrons who are d/Deaf or hard of hearing into American Sign Language.
There will be an ASL Interpreter in the lobby for anyone requiring ASL to English Interpretation for lobby interactions (ie. The bar, box office, communicating with ushers, etc.).
AUDIO DESCRIBED PERFORMANCES
Performances where patrons can listen to a description of the visual aspects of the performance described live through a small radio receiver provided by the Citadel Theatre.
TOUCH TOUR PRE-SHOW
Touch Tours are held an hour and a half before a performance where audience members who are Blind or low vision can come and feel the props, set and costumes involved in the show. Other patrons who have sensory considerations may also find touch tours helpful to familiarize themselves with elements of the production before being immersed in a performance setting.

HEARING LOOP SUPPORT
SHOCTOR THEATRE
The Shoctor Theatre recently installed a T-Coil Hearing Loop thanks to our incredible donors and community partners, the Shoctor Family.
The sound is picked up by the “T” switch of a hearing aid, amplified, and converted back into sound. Hearing aid users sitting within the loop system can pick up the speaker’s voice or other auditory stimulus with a minimum of distortion and no background noise simply by turning on the “T” switch on their hearing aids.
Please see an usher at the theatre when you arrive to pick up your audio loop receiver, which can be used with any stereo headset. Guests may bring their own headset or borrow a pair of our headsets or earbuds, free of charge. You must leave your government issued ID as a deposit until the receiver and/or headset is returned at the end of the performance.
PLEASE NOTE: THE HEARING LOOP IS NOT AVAILABLE IN THE FIRST THREE ROWS OF THE SHOCTOR THEATRE.
THE SHOCTOR THEATRE HEARING LOOP WAS PROVIDED BY HEARING LOOPS CANADA EDMONTON
MACLAB THEATRE
The Maclab Theatre features an audio loop for individuals with reduced ranges of hearing.
The loops carry baseband audio-frequency currents; no carrier signal is used. This allows the performance on stage to be transmitted to the reduced-hearing listener clearly and free of other distracting noise in the environment.
PLEASE NOTE: THE HEARING LOOP IS ONLY AVAILABLE IN SECTIONS D, E, AND F OF THE MACLAB THEATRE.
THE MACLAB THEATRE HEARING LOOP WAS GENEROUSLY DONATED BY: Audiology Clinic of Northern Alberta

SENSORY KITS
The Citadel Theatre has Sensory Kits available for patrons, artists, staff or students.
A Sensory Kit is for individuals with sensory processing concerns. For some patrons, theatre can be an overstimulating experience. Particular lights can be too bright, warm or cold, or sounds that are too loud or grating. Sensory Kits are provided for individuals to best engage with the event. The Citadel Theatre Sensory Kits include sunglasses, disposable ear plugs and a fidget toy for focus. There are also 5 overhead earphones available for additional ear protection. The Citadel Theatre’s Sensory Kits are available at the Box Office or from a Front of House team member in the theatre lobby. You must leave your government issued ID as a deposit until the receiver and/or headset is returned at the end of the performance. The Citadel Theatre’s Sensory Kits were made by Brooke Leifso.
