VOLUNTEER BOARD MEMBER OPPORTUNITY

The Citadel Theatre, one of Canada’s largest and busiest professional, not-for-profit theatre companies and facilities, is currently seeking new members to join our Board of Directors.

Located in the heart of Edmonton’s Arts District, the Citadel Theatre is one of the largest not-for-profit theatres in North America. Our expansive cultural hub features five versatile performance and event venues, welcoming more than 250,000 guests each season. We produce up to 11 productions each season, including our beloved annual presentation of A Christmas Carol, and welcome more than 130,000 audience members to these performances. The Citadel is also home to the Foote Theatre School, where over 1,000 students each year engage in classes, workshops, and performances that spark imagination, build confidence, and foster a lifelong love of theatre.

We are seeking members who will share our vision and will work to support the Executive Director and Artistic Director in fulfilling the 2025-2030 Strategic Plan.

Function/Role

The Board of Directors along with the Board of Governors oversee and support the Citadel Theatre in meeting the mandate and overall strategic plan for the theatre.

Citadel Theatre Mandate

  4. To lease, build, manage, acquire, sell, mortgage, dispose of or otherwise deal with theatre premises and other premises required for the Company’s purposes.
  5. To solicit, collect, raise and otherwise obtain funds to carry out the Company’s objectives. It is clear that these objects are reflected in the work done every day at the Citadel Theatre.

As a member of the Board of Directors, the Board Member is expected to participate in the governance and direction of policies, programs and practices that drive desired outcomes as outlined in the Citadel Theatre’s Strategic Plan.

  • Participate in the selection (as required) and management of the Artistic Director and Executive Director.
  • Commit to attending board-related meetings and providing consultative services as needed to Citadel Theatre Senior Management.
  • Serve a minimum three-year term as a Board Director, beginning November 2026.
