The Young Performing Company
Over the course of the season, students explore the core subjects of acting, voice/singing, and movement, in addition to specialized workshops in areas such as acting for the camera, stage combat, clown, devising and Shakespeare. The program culminates in a workshop production that demonstrates the skills that the students have been working on over the year. The production is directed by a professional Canadian theatre artist and is chosen specially for the participants – to give them each an opportunity to shine.
The 2023-2024 Performing Company will culminate in the production of a play, though the curriculum will still cover elements of musical theatre, including singing and choreography! The foundations of acting, singing and dancing are skills that we want all of our Young Company members to have in their toolbelt for college auditions, regardless of whether or not they’re auditioning for Acting or Musical Theatre programs.

Applications for the 2023-24 season have closed. Thank you to everyone who came out to audition!
Want to get started on your audition for next season? We look for promise and potential – not finished products. Don’t worry if you don’t have much, or any, audition experience. Our goal to make the audition as stress-free as possible.
Young Performing Company audition requirements:
- One 2-3 minute memorized monologue from a published play.
- A secondary 2-3 minute piece – can be a contrasting monologue, a song, a movement piece, etc. If your piece requires music, we will provide a sound system capable of .mp3 playback (off of your phone or laptop).
Classes meet Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6-10 pm from September to May. There are no classes on statutory holidays or over the winter break (mid-December to the beginning of January). Classes also run on all Sundays in the month of May while we work towards our workshop productions.
The first day of classes for 2023-2024 is Monday, September 18, 2023. A complete season schedule will be sent out to company members upon acceptance into the program.
There is a winter showcase of material from class on Saturday, December 2, 2023, and the final workshop production runs from May 24-26, 2024. Both events run in the Rice Theatre at the Citadel.
