Intro to Playwriting

Unlock your creative voice! Take an in-depth analysis of a published play to understand story structure, character arcs, themes and other literary devices. Then, take what you’ve learned and begin developing scenes for your very own short play.

The Fall term does not contain a final presentation. However, the Winter term culminates with in-class readings of your scenes for friends and family on the last day of class.

Please note that a high level of commitment is required for this class. To best support your fellow Ensemble members, anyone with multiple absences may not be able to perform in the final presentation. Students may not be absent for any classes in March, including the final presentation.

Our schedule is designed so students may enroll in both the Acting and Musical Theatre Ensembles. Students who register for both courses receive a 15% multiclass discount.

The final presentation will take place in Zeidler Hall at the Citadel on March 22, 2025. Exact performance time will be shared in the Fall.

The class is led by two FTS instructors with support from Centre For Autism Services Edmonton staff and volunteers.

Start the car! Students in this specialized two-week Acting course will devise a brand new play about a road trip like you’ve never seen before. The bags are packed and everyone’s ready to hit the road, but when the GPS starts acting strangely, summer vacation makes a quick u-turn…! Follow the twists and turns of creating this new story, including basic design elements to be incorporated into the camp showcase on July 25.
